WHAT IS A BIBLE?

WHAT IS A BIBLE?
BY DR. MERVYN ABREO

A Bible is a collection of love letters written by God to me (say your name).
The Bible is made up of sixty-six books. Of these, thirty-nine are in the Old Testament and twenty-seven in the New Testament.

The Old Testament, written by dozens of prophets, spans a period of around four thousand years. It deals with the period from the creation, Book of Genesis, till the Book of Malachi.
Besides depicting the history of Israel, it contains dozens of prophesies regarding the coming of Christ Jesus.

The New Testament starts with the birth, life, death and resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ (the Gospels according to Mathew, Mark, Luke and John).
The fifth book, Acts, deals with the beginning of the new Church.
The remaining Books are letters written by the apostles (Peter, Paul, John, Jude etc.) to the different infant Churches guiding, encouraging and helping them to grow.
The advice given is extremely useful for us even today.
Each Book is divided into chapters, and further subdivided into verses. E.g.: John. 3:16. It’s the sixteenth verse of the third chapter of the book of John.
From the many books available, these sixty-six were chosen. The Old Testament ends with a curse and begins with a blessing.
The Book of Isaiah, also called the fifth Gospel, contains sixty-six chapters. Like the Bible, the thirty-ninth chapter ends with a curse and begins with a blessing from the fortieth chapter.
The Bible is God’s anointed word to mankind. And is the only religious Book to state the fact that ‘God loves’!

The BIBLE is infallible and perfect. Timothy states:
“All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim. 3:16).
