JESUS’ PREPARATION FOR
CRUCIFIXION -- PART I
BY DR. MERVYN ABREO
Lord
Jesus had to, not only to prepare Himself, but He also had to ready the
Apostles, and disciples!
JESUS PREPARES HIMSELF:
Prayer: The
life of Jesus was one of prayer, and whatever He did was in response and in
accordance with the Father’s wishes. It was only after prayer that He took any
decision, like choosing His twelve Apostles or in which town to minister in.
But
Calvary weighed heavily on His mind. “During
the days of Jesus’ life on earth, He offered up prayers and petitions with loud
cries and tears to the One Who could save Him from death…..”(Hebrews 5:7).
Before
His death, He prayed fervently to the Father. (John17: 1-5). And He also prayed
just before His arrest, in the garden of Gethsemane. (Mark 14: 32 – 40).
Prayer should become an integral part of
our lives!
Mount of Transfiguration: It was
essentially a support group for Jesus just before His trial and crucifixion. It was a meeting of like minded people, all with the common goal of
establishing the Kingdom of God here on earth! (Mathew 17: 1 – 8).
Elijah
and Moses, in the Old Testament, had brought the Israelites from apostasy, to
God. And the apostles, in the New Testament, would carry on the good work of evangelism.
Do you want to be one with the Lord? Evangelize!!
Jesus Reassures Himself: He was able to wash His disciples’ feet because, “Jesus knew
that the Father had put all things under His power, and that He had come from
God, and was returning to God.” (John 13: 3).
We
too should reassure ourselves, confident that we have come from Him, because we
entered His kingdom after being born again. That we are now citizens of heaven,
with our names written in the Book of Life. And we will go and spend all
eternity with Him in heaven.
